Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was employed as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. In 1992, she was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was host and panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms and the arms control. Mitchell traveled with Ronald Reagan several times to summits and debate topics such as the Iran Contra controversy.
